3/29/13: L allergy testing
I'm not sure I've ever seen a child freak out like mine did at allergy testing. Pretty sure the entire building heard her scream, and that is not an exaggeration. Wow. I don't get paid enough for this. The good news is that whatever is bothering her is NOT allergies. She was better once they got the first prick in her but she worked herself up SO badly before that fear just overtook her.

6/7/10...a day of firsts...
This morning was L's first day of preschool. And by day, I mean a whole 1.5 hours. :) We didn't want her to associate starting school in September with her baby brother being born so we signed her up for a little school class for the summer that's twice per week. On the other mornings, she'll have swim for 30 minutes twice per week, and playgroup the other morning. Anyhow, L did great. She was really upset when we got there and we couldn't go in because the teachers weren't ready (we were a little early). Then when they let everyone in, she walked right up to the craft table and started stamping a car cutout. I figured out that I was supposed to sign her in and then she waved to me to leave. I must admit that I totally teared up when I got in the car but I'm blaming that on pregnancy hormones. ;) A bunch a parents were waiting by the classroom when the kids all walked by holding a rope. Several kids started to cry. I signed L out and she had a slight melt down when I had to physically remove the stamp thing from her hand so that we could leave. When we were walking out she asked, "why are all those kids crying?" ;)
Another first today was the introduction of peanut butter. We finally got the go ahead from her allergist and mine. So I let her have an itty bitty bit of peanut butter. Then when there was no reaction (we weren't really expecting one since she tested negative last fall, but just in case), I put some more on a spoon, but she wouldn't eat it. Then I made an itty bitty pb&j sandwich, which she wasn't really fond of either. She said she wasn't old enough yet to eat it (I'm thinking that translation is that she doesn't like it). Anyhow, I did get her to eat it, but the main thing is that there was NO reaction!!
Even though L's been potty trained for almost a year now, she's still been in diapers for naps & nighttime because she is such a sound sleeper that she doesn't wake up to pee. The doctor said not to worry about it. Anyhow, for about the last week, her naptime diaper has been dry when she woke up. Well, today, she refused to wear the diaper that I wanted her to wear (it was one from her old diaper bag that I finally cleaned out) because it didn't look like her "naptime" diapers (aka the cheapy T@rget ones) so I just didn't put her in one. I figured it would be a little test. Well, her bed was dry when she woke up from her nap! We'll see if this continues.
Two nights ago, she even woke up at like 2am to pee in the potty. Who knows...maybe some day she'll be ready to wake up to pee on a regular basis. I just don't want to have to wake up with her!
Then tonight, L had her first dance class of the summer. In two weeks, they'll have a little recital. Then she'll have a break for a few weeks and then she'll have another 4 week dance class. She just loves her dance class!

Wed., 8/26/09...allergy testing for L...
L got her skin allergy testing done today. They tested her for some environmental stuff, cats, dogs, tree nuts, cashew, almond, peanuts, strawberries, shellfish, fish, soy, and egg. Praise Jesus! The only one she reacted to was egg. I sat in the office praising God over and over for sparing L (at least for the present time) from any major allergies. I guess (for now) all those prayers worked! They did say that she could develop allergies to foods that she hasn't eaten or to environmental stuff over time.
The next step for the egg allergy is to do an in office food challenge, where I bring in two cooked scrambled eggs and they make her eat some every 15-20 min. over two hours to see if she reacts. I have this scheduled for Friday morning. They said the sooner the better since the flu vaccine has egg in it and even though she'd gotten the flu shot twice before & was fine, there's no way to know how much egg is in each vaccine. Because of that, they would make her have a flu tolerance test or something like that and if she reacted, they'd give her the flu vaccine over multiple shots instead of just one. The whole point in telling you this is that I wanted all of us to get the shots as soon as my dr.'s office got them in in Sept. (where everyone else doesn't get them until Oct.) and they didn't want me to let her get it in Sept. w/o knowing the results of the egg food challenge...thus the appt. this Friday so we'll know.
Even though she didn't test positive to other foods, but because she hasn't been exposed to them yet (fish, shellfish, tree nuts, or peanuts), the dr. prescribed an epi-pen for L so that if and when we introduce those foods in the future, that if she had a bad reaction, we'd have the medicine to save her life.
The other thing they're going to treat her for is exercise-induced asthma. I already had a nebulizer delivered to my door this afternoon. They faxed the prescription for the inhaled steroids to the mail away pharmacy so they'll hopefully come sometime next week. Should be interesting getting our jitterbug to sit still twice a day for 15 minutes each to get her treatments.
Overall, I'm super happy with the outcome. I'm thanking Jesus over and over for protecting my baby. Let's continue to pray that she doesn't develop any allergies over time!
More Elodie from today:
I told her, "You can have five stickers," and she replied, "No. 6." Also, she peed on the big potty (no seat help) three times today, once at Q*uiznos and twice at home.

Monday, 8/17/09... allergy shots & pics..
I know I'm a little behind on blogging & photos but I'll start w/today and work my way backwards. This morning I took L with me to get my allergy shots. We were in a hurry b/c I had to get down there and back by 10am when the insulation installation appointment was. L has not been the greatest both times we've been so I'll have to figure out a way to get her to behave since I have to go multiple times a week and it takes a little over an hour w/o any traffic or waiting at the office since it's about 20 minutes each way plus I have to wait in the office for 20 minutes after the shot.
We got back in time for our appt. We had more insulation put in our attic. We're hoping for it to help keep the cool in in the summer and the heat in the winter.
After dinner, we all went on a walk, although we didn't get very far b/c L wanted to run next to a neighbor's dog that has a wire fence. And then she wanted to jump off the curb over and over and over. Finally she wanted to watch one of the 8th grade boys on our street practice basketball.
I've been working on having Elodie wear shorts, capris, skirts, and pants with no underwear and she's been telling me when she needs to go potty. Then we added the underwear and no accidents so far. I think she's getting it! :)
D & I relaxed by watching a movie tonight except it was terrible. Don't see the Knowing.
Here's a slide show from the day:

Wed., 7/22/09...Candy & allergy testing...
This morning I ran around like a mad lady trying to buy all the fresh fruit & veggies so that i could wash them all and cut little slivers of each to put in labeled zip lock baggies (while washing the knife in between as not to cross contaminate) for my food allergy puddle tests this afternoon. I got done just in time to rush out the door. My appt. was in Lowry in Denver so it was a bit of a drive. I got tested, I itched, etc. I now have a list of foods to NEVER eat, a list to eat w/ caution, a list to monitor my reaction to, and a list to cut out completely and then reintroduce individually over time & monitor my reaction. I start allergy shots in two weeks for my pluthera of environmental allergies. And I'm supposed to be taking my peak flows every day before & after I take my Advair.
While I was doing all that, D's aunt Candy was kind enough to come watch L. We LOVE Candy and L really LOVES her too. When Candy got here, L wouldn't let Candy put her down. Too cute! Anyhow, apparently L didn't nap and just stayed in her crib for an hour and 45 min saying things like, "candy come here," "candy up here," and "No nap!" When she finally got her up, L said, "where mommy?" Candy said watching her now that she talks in sentences is a whole new world. :) D's uncle Dale dropped by around dinner time b/c he was working at Rocky Mtn Airport (he works for the FAA out by DIA) & wanted to see L. We had a great time visiting w/them before they had to leave, but I think L felt a little left out as she sat in her highchair w/her fingers in her ears screaming.

Showing off her bandaid for a fake booboo so she can be like Auntie Candy. She LOVES rummaging through Auntie Candy's purse for forbidden objects :)
L's potty skills are going pretty well. She held her peed the whole morning while we were on errands (got up around 7:30am and peed at 11:20am). She peed on the floor a couple times today while sitting on the potty so I'm not exactly sure how that happened other than to guess she wasn't sitting back far enough on the potty when she peed...it's never happened before. She also told D twice during her bath "pee pee potty" and D took her out of the bath & she peed on the toliet and then continued w/her bath.
D's still got his cold after a week so I called his Dr. for him (he said he'd call next week!) and they think it's bacterial so they put him on an antibiotic...we're hoping that he gets well quick as all this congestion, headache, sore throat, sick thing kinda sucks.
