1/19/13: Mul@n

Isn't she cute? Mulan goes with her everywhere. Even had her sit next to her yesterday while we did school.  Opa and Nonna got her for Elodie for Christmas.

Prayer for China & Callen's in school

Today Elodie picked China off the VOM Persecuted Countries map to pray for. I told her about China's one child policy, heavy taxes that people can't afford for a second child, forced abortions (baby killing), and abandoning babies. This was her prayer: Dear Lord, Let the people who have two babies not kill the babies. Let them know you are real Lord. I love you Lord one hundred times more than I love my mommy. Amen.

Elodie did a perfect letter N in HWT.

Callen can say "mo" (more), "pee" (please), and "sssinky" (stinky).  He can breath through apple straws.  He wants to draw when Elodie is drawing for Kindergarten and he dances along with the school songs like "Frog Jump Letters," jumping at the jumping parts and putting both hands in the air when demonstrating the letters in the air.

He wanted to color like his sissy.

2/4/12: C new molar

I was so excited this past week because starting Saturday night, C slept through the night FIVE nights in a row! I can't even tell you how long it's been since he's done that because it's been that long! Then Thursday night and last night he woke up around 5am. Thursday night I nursed him but then he cried and I tried to let him cry but I finally went back in and nursed him again so he'd stop crying. Then last night I was determined. He cried for an hour (waking up L in the process) before I went in and checked on him. I did not pick him up though, just hugged him, wiped his tears, and layed him back down. Well then he was really mad! He kept on crying very loudly but eventually fell back asleep.

It occurred to me this morning to check his teeth and sure enough, his top left molar has cut through the gum and his right one is so close. I think we'll be trying some T*ylenol tonight!

12/8/11: C climbing on step stools

I keep finding little guy on step stools or makeshift ones all over the house. Tonight he was whining and I looked over and he was standing on the step stool in the kitchen and was apparently stuck so I helped him get down. Earlier tonight, we found him on toy drum just big enough for his two little feet to stand on trying to get stuff off the tv stand. He also discovered today that if he climbs the stairs that he can reach the back top of the dresser drawers and get everything we've put out of his reach. Smart little dude. Last night, he fell off Elodie's step stool in the bathroom (under daddy's watch). Yesterday, he was on his knees on the step stool, leaning over trying to turn the dishwasher on. Then later, he was on his feet on the step stool trying to get stuff off the kitchen counter. He's also discovered he can climb onto his toy airplane on his knees and then he'll do a little dance. It's really cute but each time I see him up on his knees, I'm afraid he's going to fall and hurt himself. This kid is constantly splitting his lip open.

And no, he's not walking by himself yet. So close though. Tonight he took one step to me about 3 different times. He cruises furniture though and is a super fast crawler.

And no, no words yet. He says "yaya" but it's not a word. He does say "dada" and I think it means "daddy" but who knows for sure. He does know some signs. He waves and claps. He puts his hand up to his ear for "phone." He signs "milk" (moving his fingers) for everything. Sometimes he wants milk, but more often he wants something else, whether it be food or something he sees on the counter. So we offer him milk, he'll swing his hands really big to push it away and shake his head. So then we ask him if he wants to eat or wants food, and then he'll usually put his hand to his mouth (sign for food). He used to sign "more" but he won't do it anymore. He'all also pull himself to standing hanging onto my legs and put his arms up to say "up."

Oh, and C's actually slept through the night the past three nights in a row. Hallelujah! Must be a God thing b/c the only thing I've done differently is put a cotton jammie on under his fleece footed jammies (but I've done that in the past with no magic sleep through the night function) because it's been really cold. Anyhow, here's to praying this stays this way for the rest of his life...the sleeping through the night thing. :)

If C has something in his mouth and Dave or I has to tell him "no" for some reason, C will start to cry and put his hand in his mouth and throw all the food that was previously in it out onto the ground. So annoying. And when he gets mad, he'll throw whatever he has in his hands.

8/10/11: C sleeps & L's gone

I can't believe it. after at least a week, i think more, of C taking up to 2 hrs to fall asleep, he fell asleep with minimal crying tonight. Yipee.

Today, C also pulled himself to standing at the music table and then very slowly pushed the table all the way to the couch, all the while standing. My little baby is all too quickly becoming less baby-like :( I keep wanting to pause all these moments in time because I know I'll never get them back!

In other news, why is it that I totally miss L & feel this complete void and she's only been gone a couple hours? At least I know my princess is having a blast & being loved by her auntie & uncle :)

4/23/11: Callen puts puff into his mouth

Today Callen used his thumb and forefinger to pick up a banana puff and put it in his mouth. He's been trying very diligently to pick up the puffs but they always just stick to his hands and I don't think I've ever seen one make it into his mouth before.

Oh, and I knew that Callen's name wasn't as unique as Elodie's (boys' names are hard!) so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that I heard a lady at C*stco yesterday call her son Callen.

We're still having a ton of trouble getting Callen to sleep through the night. After a month of trying to get him back to sleep without nursing him, I've given up. So now when I hear him cry, I just get up, nurse him a little and put him back in his crib awake and he usually falls right back to sleep.

3/26/11: long couple of days

long days. yesterday had a nice girls day out with my mom (& C). we went to Loveland so that I could return some stuff at Carter's. I ended up finding a cute pj for $4 for L that she can wear as an outfit. Then we went to Old Navy before ending up at Panera's for lunch & so I could nurse C. I thought that we could walk around the park with the statues before getting back on the road but C fell asleep before we got there so we just drove around the park before heading back to the freeway. We think L would like it so hopefully we can pack a picnic one of the days and come back up.

Today I had fun at Shinji's 4th birthday party w/the kiddos. Then we came home and had dinner. Dave left for another night shift and mom & I watched a movie.

Last night C slept til 5am. He cried off & on til 6:30am but went back to sleep. I went in and did the pick up put down thing at one point. I'm hoping & praying for C to sleep til 8am tomorrow! This lack of sleep thing is a killer!

D had his first night shift last night and managed to sleep 4.5 hrs today. Something tells me he's gonna be tired when he gets home tomorrow morning!

3/18/11: C napping on tummy

Yesterday I thought C might have been napping on his tummy. Hard to tell on the video monitor. Then this morning you could definitely tell he was sleeping on his tummy (put him down on his back) and he was still sleeping on his tummy when I woke him up at 12pm. Now he's down for his afternoon nap and he's sleeping on his tummy again. If I remember right, L did the same thing when she could roll over.

He's also rolled over several times today already and I've still yet to catch him in the act. I only see the evidence after the fact (aka he's on his tummy & I left him on his back). I think he only rolls one way so far. From his back towards his left onto his tummy.

In other news, L's cough seems worse today so I took her to the doctor. They said her ears were fine, her lungs were clear, no wheezing, no boogies in her nose. Her throat looked a little irritated, like from postnasal drip and she had a fever of 99.6F. She's acting mostly fine. Ate lunch really late and then I gave her tylenol b/c her temp was up to 100.4F and I thought she'd feel better & act better if she felt better. (She was cold.) Anyhow, I'm hoping everyone else can stay healthy since Dave's on day 2 of working four 12 hour shifts so I'm on my own through the weekend.

The good news is that after 5 nights of waking up in the middle of the night and crying for hours, C is finally sleeping through the night again (at least the last two nights). We think he might have been having a hard time staying asleep since we had to stop swaddling him since he could roll over while swaddled. We had also just changed his schedule (dropped a feeding), added his first baby food (oatmeal), got his shots, didn't poop for 5 days (had to add baby prunes to his diet), etc. Basically he had a whole lot of change (not purposely planned at the same time) at once so we didn't know what was going on with him. Plus, we were thankful that Dale & Candy had L almost all those nights so he didn't wake L up too.
