2/26/13: Potty Training

He's peed three times this morning. All by himself on the potty, taking off his undies first. Even emptied the bowl the last time and then came to tell me.  Pooped by himself too.

2/25/13: Potty training day 4

So I started potty training Callen on Friday, kind of last minute, but I knew that we happen to have a few days in a row to do it.

He actually "got it" quicker than Elodie did because from day one, he peed in the potty quite a few times, all without me asking.

On Saturday, I tried putting some undies on him, but he promptly peed in them, and then he was crying from the huge rash he had from them.  (I took them off as soon as it happened but his pee must have reacted with the detergent or something because I had to give him a bath for the stinging to stop.)  I bought him more undies at the store and he was so excited because they were Thom*s the Train, Elm*, C*okie Monster, and Gr*ver.  He peed in another pair of undies so I left him naked from the waist down after that.

Yesterday, he had two accidents.  One time, he sat on top of the potty with the lid closed and peed.  Another time, he peed on his wooden blocks while clapping and saying "yay!"  Dave was like, "no!!!!!! no yay! pee on potty!"

Today was day four and I decided to have him wear undies today since we are going to have to leave the house at some point!  He had two accidents today too.  One time, he hid in a corner between the couch, wall, and shoe bench and peed in his undies and on his shirt, sweatshirt, socks and the floor.  And while I was contemplating quitting, he sat on the potty and went #2 all by himself.  Before I put his undies back on him, he stood in front of Elodie (who's been on the couch sick since Saturday) and peed on the floor.  After I put his undies back on him, he said, "Pee pee potty" so I helped him get his undies off and he peed in the potty.  After his nap (we're doing diapers for nap & night since he's still in his crib), he took his own undies off to pee in the potty three times.  Yay Callen!

Hoping he can continue to improve. :)

12/31/12: Bunny Poop

We're not really potty training Callen b/c it's winter and I'm lazy and Dave's no help. But, after lunch today when I was getting Callen out of his high chair, he said "poop" and I smelled him and asked, "Did you poop?" He said, "no poop," and I looked and sure enough, no poop. But since he was stinky, I knew a poop must be coming so I took of his jeans and diaper and had him sit backwards on the little potty (in case he peed so the pee would go in the potty and not all over his feet and the floor if he sat forwards). I left him alone and sat at the kitchen table. He said, "poop!" so I went to check and there was a pea-sized pebble of poop in the potty. I told him he needed to stay there. Then later, he said, "more poop!" so I went to check and there was more poop but not by much. He signed "bunny" and said "poop." "Bunny poop!" Me: "you mean your poop looks like bunny poop?" "Yeah," he answered. Funny boy! So I left him be again. And then, he did it! He pooped in the potty! I clapped and said, "yay!!" So when I was putting his diaper back on him later, he was clapping and saying "yay!" I reaffirmed how happy we were that he pooped in the potty!

I wish he could just be potty trained already and I wouldn't have to put in the hard work. I guess if I really want to do it I need to put the baby gate back up so I can have him only in one room of the house. I tried it a couple months ago and it was just too hard to keep an eye on him every second so he'd end up peeing on the floor and I didn't see it until later. :(

6/22/10...naptime diaper...

So I was getting ready to write a post about how L has NOT worn a nap time diaper in over two weeks and she's had no accidents. Well, that changed at nap today. I *think* the problem was that b/c she still had a fever she slept longer than her normal nap. She slept for 2.5-2.75hrs, instead of her usual 1.5-2 hrs. Anyway, we're not going back to diapers, so hopefully it was just a fluke. She asked tonight why she had to wear diapers at night and I told her she didn't have to if she could wake up to pee. We'll have that discussion with her doctor next week at her 3-year-old appointment, but my guess is there's no point in going diaper-free at night until she wakes up consistently with dry diapers (which I don't think has ever happened).

In other news, she still had a low fever today...in the 99s so we'll have to stay home another day tomorrow. She's still acting totally normal. She's watched tv, played with playd*h, rode her scooter around the house, played with her doll (actually mine from 30 yrs ago), etc.

We were watching T*y Story 2 today and I said, "I like this song," and Elodie replied, "This song is sad."  The funny thing is that it totally is this sad, melancholy song and she recognized that.

She also said, "I'm screwing the screwer," using her toy screw driver to screw in a screw.

10/1/09...peed on floor

I don't know what is going on with L, but today she peed through her underwear and pants onto the floor upstairs. Just stood there and peed.

9/30/09...peed in car seat

L peed in her car seat today after she refused to go potty at BSF before we left. I was quite irritated with her since it was a less than 5 minute trip from BSF to T@rget and she's only done that like once before and that was at the end of a 17 hr drive.

Thurs., 7/23/09...Estes Park & Johnny...

A week ago my mom had forwarded me an email from Johnny (my Nana's widower) on how life's been and it said he was going on a family reunion trip to Estes Park. I emailed him to find out when he'd be out our way so we could see each other. He said he'd be there July 23-25, but he didn't know their schedule so he'd call me when he got there. Well I should have put it on my calendar b/c I remembered all the way up until the day before so by the time Johnny called yesterday morning, I had totally forgot! I rushed to get showered (fastest shower in a long time!), packed and out of the house for the 1:15 min drive up to Estes Park. L even told me she had to pee twice so we pulled over so she could pee in her little potty. I had a lot of fun driving my car up the mountain. I must have passed at least 20 cars and probably 15 of them were in a row that I just kept passing like 3 or 4 cars in a row. Of course, right after I finally passed them all, L said "pee pee potty" and I asked, "can you wait?" and she said, "pee pee potty." I'm sure those cars must have thought I was nuts for passing them all and then pulling over! :)

We got up there around 11:15am. L greeted Johnny with a big "grandpa!" and he got to hold her while I unloaded the car, put a dress on her, etc. We hung out with his family (son Bill & his wife Vickie, granddaughters Amy & Elizabeth & her fiance, and daughter Diane) and ate pizza for lunch. Bill let L dump ALL the pieces to their Cranium game on the floor...he'd then put all the cards back in their spots, and then she'd dump them out again. She also liked the playdoh for the Cranium. They also had one of those bday cards that when you open it, the card talks. She loved that and they let her take it home. (She dutifully played with it until she destroyed it this morning.) Then we ventured into town for ice cream. Johnny pushed L in the stroller for a while and then Bill took over. They were so cute. Bill's going to be a great grandfather when the time comes. He was such a natural w/L and she really took to him! :) We found a place that had homemade ice cream (I got huckleberry) and then we ate our cones on the riverfront. L really wanted some ice cream so Bill let her eat some of his and I let her have a few bites of mine too. She loved being next to the water and the center of attention. She ran up and down the stairs and up and down the river. Elizabeth & her fiance wanted to do some climbing so I took some quick shots of their whole family for them and Diane took some of Johnny, L & me before we headed our separate ways.

I took L back to their condo to try to put her down for a late nap (it was after 2:30pm) but she wouldn't have it. She cried and cried and kept screaming for me. I finally gave up and told her she had to rest on the couch w/me or she was going back into the crib. She did that heavy breathing that kids do when they've been crying forever and laid her head on my chest (facing me). She must have slept for about 45 min. like that (still doing the heavy breathing from sobbing for at least 30 min of it). It was SO nice to be able to hold a sleeping toddler since I haven't held her sleeping in my arms since she was a baby. That girl just doesn't sleep anywhere but in a crib (ie: no car, no stroller, no arms, etc.). Shortly after she woke up, Amy, Vickie, and Johnny came back to the condo and we got to visit some more before the rest of the gang showed up again. I wanted to leave around 5pm but time escaped me and we ended up leaving around 6pm.

I stopped by McDs for some chicken nuggets for L and realized I had forgot my sunglasses. L peed in the potty and I put a diaper on her so I didn't have to keep stopping on the way down since it was starting to sprinkle and I didn't want to have to get rained on. We took a quick detour back to the condo to get my glasses and then were on our way. I got stuck behind some slow people on the way down that didn't make for nearly as enjoyable as a drive, but it was alright. When we got home we were able to walk L around the block a few times before giving her a bath and putting her to bed.

All in all it was a great little trip and we really enjoyed ourselves with Johnny and his family. :)

I will say that we paid for it this morning though b/c boy was L cranky today! I'm sure it's a combo of no nap on Wednesday when Candy was here and only getting a 45min nap yesterday.

Wed., 7/22/09...Candy & allergy testing...

This morning I ran around like a mad lady trying to buy all the fresh fruit & veggies so that i could wash them all and cut little slivers of each to put in labeled zip lock baggies (while washing the knife in between as not to cross contaminate) for my food allergy puddle tests this afternoon. I got done just in time to rush out the door. My appt. was in Lowry in Denver so it was a bit of a drive. I got tested, I itched, etc. I now have a list of foods to NEVER eat, a list to eat w/ caution, a list to monitor my reaction to, and a list to cut out completely and then reintroduce individually over time & monitor my reaction. I start allergy shots in two weeks for my pluthera of environmental allergies. And I'm supposed to be taking my peak flows every day before & after I take my Advair.

While I was doing all that, D's aunt Candy was kind enough to come watch L. We LOVE Candy and L really LOVES her too. When Candy got here, L wouldn't let Candy put her down. Too cute! Anyhow, apparently L didn't nap and just stayed in her crib for an hour and 45 min saying things like, "candy come here," "candy up here," and "No nap!" When she finally got her up, L said, "where mommy?" Candy said watching her now that she talks in sentences is a whole new world. :) D's uncle Dale dropped by around dinner time b/c he was working at Rocky Mtn Airport (he works for the FAA out by DIA) & wanted to see L. We had a great time visiting w/them before they had to leave, but I think L felt a little left out as she sat in her highchair w/her fingers in her ears screaming.

Showing off her bandaid for a fake booboo so she can be like Auntie Candy. She LOVES rummaging through Auntie Candy's purse for forbidden objects :)

L's potty skills are going pretty well. She held her peed the whole morning while we were on errands (got up around 7:30am and peed at 11:20am). She peed on the floor a couple times today while sitting on the potty so I'm not exactly sure how that happened other than to guess she wasn't sitting back far enough on the potty when she peed...it's never happened before. She also told D twice during her bath "pee pee potty" and D took her out of the bath & she peed on the toliet and then continued w/her bath.

D's still got his cold after a week so I called his Dr. for him (he said he'd call next week!) and they think it's bacterial so they put him on an antibiotic...we're hoping that he gets well quick as all this congestion, headache, sore throat, sick thing kinda sucks.

Potty training...

L seems to be potty trained, at least while she's awake. I even left her diaperless for two naps and she peed on the potty before & after her nap. :) I tried having L go diaperless one night but it took forever to get her to go to bed b/c she kept saying she had to go "pee pee potty," but she didn't. Then 45 min later, she said "pee pee potty" and I bounded up the stairs to get her & she went. Then at 12:20am, she started crying and I went in to check on her and she had wet the bed. I changed her sheets & put a diaper on her. When she woke up the next morning, her diaper was had a bunch of pee in it, so I think she's just not ready to do the night time thing yet.

She's also doing #2 in the potty too. She's wearing underwear now and can take it off herself and sometimes put it on herself. She even appears to be potty trained while we're out and about doing errands. We take the little potty with us and we just keep asking if she has to go before and after we go into a store.

I still can't believe that she's potty trained! Praise the Lord!

7/17/09: potty training

L pooped on the potty today.  She refused to let me put a diaper on her for her nap.  She cried because she couldn't go potty after her diaper was on for bedtime.

7/16/09: potty training

L had an accident with panties and capris on.  She had a big poop in the potty. :)  She took a nap without her diaper and peed on the potty afterward.  We tried a night without her diaper but she peed around 12:20AM.

Friday, 7/10/09...potty training!

Starting on Monday I let L run around the house w/no pants & no diaper. I didn't say I was trying to potty train b/c I didn't really know what would happen and I didn't want to call it that so that if it didn't go anywhere, I wouldn't be failing at it. ;) So anyhow, she peed a few times on our floor (hardwood) so I just wiped it up and put her on the potty as soon as I saw her do it. Monday night we had D's mom, grandma, nephew & niece over for dinner so we put a diaper on her for at least part of the evening so she could sit on the couch and on peoples' laps, etc.

Tuesday morning, we went to their hotel to go swimming so she was in a swim diaper almost the whole morning. Then when she was eating lunch in the highchair diaperless, she peed in the highchair. We came up from the basement talking to the A/C guy, and she said peepee. I thought she needed to go so I started to get her out, but then I realized she had already peed in the highchair and there was a puddle of pee under the chair. nice.

Wednesday morning, I had her diaperless & pantless all morning and she didn't pee at all! I finally said I needed to go to the store so I put a cloth diaper on her and went to the store (got her a tball set so we'd have something to do in the back yard while potty training) and came back and she was still dry! By the time she finally peed, it had been over 5 hours! Apparently the girl can really hold her pee if she wants to. Anyhow, we were outside playing with the tball set and she started to pee so I said something like "oh oh oh" and put her on the potty. She stopped peeing as soon as I said something and then finished peeing in the potty.

Wednesday evening I had to leave L w/D, who wanted to just put her in a diaper since I wasn't going to be there. He said "how am I supposed to make dinner and watch her?" and of course my reply was, "what do you think I do all day long?" He said, "well that's why you're at home with her." It was a sweet reply but I told him he needed to stick her toy in the kitchen along with the potty and just try to keep an eye on her the best he could. So apparently she peed on the floor once, but when they were outside after dinner playing tball, twice she said,"peepee potty" and sat on the potty and went w/o any prompting from D. Yay!

Yesterday, Thursday, she basically peed in the potty all day long except for her nap and a couple drips on a walk around the block w/o the potty. In the morning, we played outside for a bit and she peed on the potty. Then we had to make a trip to Costco & Target for dinner stuff so I put a cloth diaper on her and took the potty with us. I asked checked her diaper before we headed home and it was still dry but she didn't want to sit on the potty. Even though I got her out right away, by the time we got home (5 min. later), she had filled her diaper. I didn't think she'd need to pee again after that, but I put out the potty anyhow and, while I was inside putting away her diaper, she peed on the potty...unfortuanately, her dress got wet, but still...she peed on the potty w/o me there! So we changed her dress and took a walk around the block. She started to pee a little and I said "ut oh. do we need to go home to potty?" and she nodded so we took off for home. By the time we got there though, she didn't want to sit on the potty. So when we took off to walk around the block again, I took the potty with us. That must have been some sight, but hey, a mom does what a mom's gotta do. L wanted to go to Charlotte's house (a 3.5 yr old girl around the corner) and while Kristy (the mom) and I talked, L ran around the front of their house. Then I noticed that L was sitting on the potty. She went all by herself again! That night we had our neighbors over for dinner and she went potty on the potty all evening while they were there.

Yesterday I bought undies for L so that she wouldn't have to go showing her privates all over the neighborhood and could sit on people's lap w/o her bare bum touching them. So after I washed them, she wore them this morning. I told her to remember to take them off before she peed on the potty. We she did it. She peed all morning long in the potty and took the undies off before peeing in the potty. Now we just have to work on being out and about. In the 5 minutes that it took to get to Target this morning, she peed in her carseat. I had put down a cloth diaper under her. I asked her to sit on the potty before we left and after we got there and again before we got in the car to come home, so I guess I'll just keep doing that and hope it sinks in.

I'm going to worry about naptimes and night time after she wakes up consistently with a dry diaper.

So THANK YOU Jesus for it going so well so far!!
