Elodieism

Elodie to her dad:  "Say 'Elodie likes to ride horses.'"
Daddy: "Elodie likes to ride horses."
Elodie: "No! Use your pronouncer voice."
Daddy, in his announcer voice: "Elodie likes to ride horses."

4/13/13: L saying

Elodie points to the Van Gogh book and excitedly asks her daddy, "do you know what that's made out of?"  He said, "wood."  She said, "No! Grease!"  Daddy thinks for a second and says, "you mean oil?  It's an oil painting." :)

3/31/13: C "Praise God! Hallelujah!"

For the past couple weeks, Callen likes to go around saying, "Praise God! Hallelujah!" He'll even go around singing it. It's SO darn cute.

3/23/13: Elodie sayings

After telling Elodie she had to clean up her toys, she said, "but some of these aren't even mine."  I replied, "I told you earlier that you will just have to suck it up and clean up after your brother sometimes."  Then Dave said, "That's one of the benefits of being a big sister."  Elodie replied,  "I thought being a big sister was going to be easy, but it's not. It's hard as a rock."
Too funny!

2/21/13: Callen "Away bad! Praise God!"

Callen likes to say, "Away bad! Praise God!"

2/21/13: Elodie-isms

2/8/13: Elodie: Now what am I going to do? Stay home and knit all day?!

2/9/13: Elodie was singing a song about countries this morning when she said, "Turkey, Greece, and cereal." Dave said, "you mean Syria?" :)

2/11/13: Liz: Blessed are the peacekeepers. Daddy likes that because he's a peacekeeper. Elodie: I'm a peacekeeper. Liz: I don't know about that... Elodie: Well, I'm a noisemaker!

2/12/13: Elodie bottom right front tooth wiggly

2/14/13: Elodie: function cord (vocal cord...we were talking about my Vocal Cord Dysfunction)

2/18/13: Elodie: It's hard to cut this way because I'm not usual to it (aka used to it).

2/21/13: Elodie asks me, "Is your heart on fire?" I had been saying earlier that I had heartburn. :)

4/17/12: Elodie quotes

Elodie quote: "mom, it kinda looks like it's gonna rain because more water vapor is collecting in the clouds"

Then earlier today I was telling Elodie that the situation was getting the better of her. She said, "No, it's not." I thought I knew where she was going with that so I said, "Why? Because it's worse?" And she said, "yes." Too funny.

4/2/12: Elodie & Mario

I was talking to Elodie and she says "when I grow up there's going to be two mamas in our house until I get married." I'm scrambling at this point to think of the right thing to say in this teaching moment. I say, "No, because unless you adopt you not going to have any babies before you get married. You'll be a woman because you'll be grown up but a mama means you have a baby and no babies until married." Elodie says, "It's going to be so hard to choose a husband." (like there's going to be so many choices that it's going to be hard to choose) At this point, I'm trying really hard not to laugh. I say, "Well, I think you'll know. I just knew with daddy. If you are really worried about it, when you get older, you can start praying that God brings you the right one." Elodie says, "But I just want Mario."

1/16/12: L sayings and schooling

This morning L had a total meltdown and was sent into a time out. There, I could hear her crying, "I'm separated from God!!" and then, "I want God. I want God. I want God." I guess that lesson about sin last week is sinking in.

After that she kept crying and screaming "I'm scared" and she was trembling in fear. It took me a LONG time to calm her down. There was much explanation that goblins and ghosts are not real. Much explanation that we don't have wolfs down here and that coyotes are not in our house. Then a couple hours later when she was getting in her bed for her quiet time, she spontaneously said something like I'm throwing all my scaredness up to Jesus. He's taking it for me. :)

Have you wondered what a homeschooling day looks like for us? I spent a few hours yesterday putting things into our online calendar so that things that repeated week after week would just be there. Then I just have to add the things that change each week. I usually do 3 weeks of planning at a time since her units this year are in 3 week intervals. Things went much smoother being able to reference my cell phone calendar for a list of what needed to get done this morning for school.

We started at 9AM with her Bible memory verses (while I got Callen into his highchair, gave him food, poured my cereal & milk, and ate). Then we went over her ABC flashcards. She already knows all her letters so we use them to review the sounds the letters make. She pretty much knows all her sounds too, with the exception of maybe one or two (some letters have more than one sound). After that she was supposed to do two pages in her workbook. This is where the meltdown came in. She didn't want to do the pages and she didn't want to write her name in uppercase and lowercase letters (she only wanted to write her name in all capitals). Then it took an hour and ten minutes to have her tantrum and calmed back down. When she was screaming, I grabbed the laundry and stuck a load in the wash. She finally did her two pages, with minor complaints. She was doing some coloring (the number 6 and six dolls) and then tracing the number 6. The second page was on 'g' so she colored a grasshopper, added grass to the page, and traced the letter g. Then we had lunch. When I finally sat down to eat, I had her review her kindergarten and 1st grade sight words. I think she knew 19 of the 20 kindergarten words and knew maybe 7 of the 40 1st grade words. We haven't review those in months so I was impressed. Callen was still eating so I had Elodie grab a Bob book to read, while I put a load of wash in the dryer. I was so proud of her. She didn't get frustrated or mad or throw a fit, like she has in the past. She went over the three sight words in the front and then was able to read the whole book. She either knew the word by heart or was able to sound it out. Super proud mama and daddy!! After Callen finally finished lunch, we went downstairs to listen to a story on George Washington. Then we did a snowman craft. She picked out pink paper for her snowman. I traced the circles and she cut out the smallest circle and told me to cut out the others. She then pasted them to the paper. She drew buttons, eyes, sunglasses, arms, stomach (the thing in the bottom circle "so he can eat"), and a mouth on her snowman. I drew the carrot nose on and outlined a hat, which she then traced and colored in. We finished with eight minutes to spare before quiet time. Then after her quiet time, I had her watch two short videos on MLK, Jr. since it's MLK, Jr. Day today.

12/12/11: Best mommy & C sign & sleep

Elodie likes to tell me, "You're the best mommy I ever had." And I like to say back, "I'm the only mommy you've ever had," and she'll reply back again, "no, you're the best mommy I ever had."

C did so well sleeping through the night three nights in a row and then didn't for two nights then did again for one night and then didn't last night. I would love to know how to make him sleep through the night!!

Dave and I have been working hard on reinforcing signs with C and Dave was working particularly hard on "all done" this weekend. Well, it seems to have paid off since C signed "all done" at breakfast this morning and after I nursed him before lunch. Then I asked him if he wanted to eat and he signed "food" (put his hand to his mouth). He's also said "dada" a ton this morning and I think he even tried to sign "dada." He also said "mama" but I'm much more convinced that when he says "dada" he actually means Dave than I am of his "mama" meaning me. It's progress at least. :)

10/31/11: L funny

Me: This kid makes me want to pull my hair out (after Callen won't eat anything)
Elodie: Maybe you should have adopted someone different from Korea.

Friday 3/11/11: L at Dale & Candy's

L is at Dale & Candy's for the weekend. Here's Candy's post from this morning:

L is here for 3 nights....first words...."last time I was here you said I stayed for 10 days but it was only 8, try to count it right this time." Funny child.

L cracks me up. On the way to their house last night we had an argument in the car because she insisted it was 10 days "b/c candy said so" and I counted the days out and showed her on my hands that it was only 8. We went back and forth for a long time until she finally said ok it's 8. (and really we've had this argument several times in the past month) The whole time I was thinking: what is my obsession with being right??!! why am I arguing with my almost 4 yr old??!!

3/6/11: L calling daddy "Dave"

Elodie's been calling daddy "Dave" instead of "daddy" for the past few weeks.  It drives Dave nuts.

2/22/11: L funny

Today Elodie was covering up Callen in the stroller so I asked why and she said, "to protect him from the predators."  I think it's from the zombie game she plays with her daddy.

Today Elodie said, "Mommy?  Where's Dave?"
